Eagles' Wings Story

The Eagles’ wings story

Eagles’ Wings Youth Ranch is the result of a dream that Albert and Dianne Hagan had to provide an early intervention and prevention program for at-risk boys and girls.

Sharing in prayer and Bible study has been important to Albert and Dianne Hagan from the beginning of their relationship. Through such sharing, God led them to adopt Isaiah 40:30-31 as their life verse and the eagle as a mascot. As they shared one day, they began to sense that God wanted them to leave their current jobs in Louisiana, to pursue a lifetime dream of having a youth ranch to meet the needs of disadvantaged young people through a camp and follow-up program. That dream is being fulfilled through Eagles' Wings Youth Ranch. This is the story of how God brought it about.

The bunk house is where campers and staff stay during summer camp.

Seeking God’s direction, they wrote four western states and realized a great need for such a facility in the state of New Mexico.

“We then wrote letters to 20 chambers of commerce in New Mexico and received from some no response, from others only form

letters and brochures, but from the little town of Mountainair, we received a very personal letter. God spoke to Albert through that letter.

“When we first drove into Mountainair, we saw a large painted eagle on the side of one of the town buildings. Seeing this, meeting many nice people, and looking at many pieces of land, we began to sense that Mountainair was indeed the place where God wanted us to relocate. Then the question became where, on what exact spot. As is our way even on trips, we attend church every Sunday. The Sunday we were in Mountainair, we visited First Baptist Church and were invited to stay for potluck. It was then that the pastor asked Albert why we were in the area.   Albert explained we were looking for 40-60 acres of land on which to build a youth ranch. During that conversation, we were told of a 40 acre tract of land that had been donated to the church in 1940. When we saw the land for the first time, we felt it was indeed the answer to where God wanted us to build. The Board of Trustees voted to recommend the church consider offering the property to us in some combination purchase/lease package. We were asked to also prayerfully make a proposal back to the church after we returned to Louisiana.  We left New Mexico the next morning with a song in our heart, praising the Lord for His provisions and blessings… BUT, there was more to come.

“Albert mailed our proposal one day and Bro. Don Hayhurst called the very next while our proposal was still on its way and told us what the church unanimously proposed. Their proposal turned out to be exactly what we had written as ours to them. Then, Dry Creek Baptist Camp (where Albert served as Manager for 26 years) Board of Trustees, unaware of the above details, voted to give Albert a going away gift in the exact amount of the price of the Mountainair property.”

In 1992 the Hagan’s moved to Mountainair and Eagles' Wings Youth Ranch was born. After many more miracles, and God’s continual provision, the first summer camps began in 1998. As it continues to grow, God is bringing many significant people into the ministry of Eagles' Wings. These people diligently work with the youth, fervently pray for God’s blessing, graciously give of their finances, and continually serve as a passionate partner committed to the mission of Eagles' Wings Youth Ranch.
